1. The Selection Approach of President Scholarship of College of Life Science, NTHU
 
Article 1. Only doctoral students admitted in 2004 or anytime thereafter are eligible to apply for the President’s Scholarship.
 
Article 2. The President’s Scholarship will be a NT$ 240,000 stipend paid over one year, in which NT$ 20,000 will be funded per month.        
 
Article 3. The number of recipients of President’s Scholarship will be decided by Office of Academic Affairs every year.
 
Article 4. Selection method
The outstanding candidate will be selected from eligible candidates, based upon the quota released each year, among PhD students enrolled by entrance exam and those who transfer directly from the Masters program.
 
Article 5. The graduate students can receive both the scholarship and subsidy at the same time, but with the maximum amount of NT$ 20,000 per month per PhD student.
 
Article 6. For those graduate students who are participating in any of the research programs or holding other scholarships in addition to the President’s scholarship, the total amount of stipend received must not exceed the amount stated in Article 5 of these provisions.
 
Article 7. These provisions were set by the Curriculum Committee of the College, approved at the Council Meeting of the College, and will be amended if necessary.
 
2. College of Life Science Reward of Outstanding Neurosciences Thesis
 
·        Objectives:
To inspire students involved in neuroscience research at NTHU, Dr. Mu-Ming Poo (Academician) generously donated his lecture fees to reward the student with the most outstanding publication of a neuroscience paper.
 
·        Requirements:
Current students (excludes those who have terminated their studies), first author of a thesis paper published in a neuroscience journal, thesis publication period must be between August 1st and July 31st  of the following year, and NTHU must appear on the thesis paper as the location of the research. If the thesis paper is in the process of being accepted, but is not yet published (or still in press), the relevant documents must be attached. Paper SCI Impact Factor must be at least 5.5. Quota: 1
 
·        Deadline: 31st July of each year
 
·        Application: Please provide a photocopy of your student ID and a copy of your thesis to Professor Yen-Chung Chang’s Office (LS Building I, Room 423).
 
·        Awarding method:
1. The winner will be awarded NT $ 30,000 and a certificate will be provided.

2. The certificate will be awarded by Dr. Mu-Ming Poo, upon which the winner will be required to give a brief presentation about his/her research.
 
3. Shen's Culture & Education Foundation(沈巨塵先生)
 
·        Objectives:
To commemorate the enthusiasm for education of Mr. Shen, the "NTHU Scholarship of Mr. Shen" was set up at the College of Life Science in NTHU by Mr. Shen’s Foundation in order to cultivate outstanding youths to further their education and encourage students to participate in life science-related research.
 
·        Targets: Priority is given to first year Ph.D. students who are currently studying in any of the four institutes of the College of Life Sciences at NTHU and entered via enrollment examination. He or she must be a full-time research student.
 
·        Award Description:
1. PhD student scholarships are available for six first-year PhD candidates.  Each scholarship is worth NT $ 100,000, with an equal amount distributed each month, over a period of 10 months.

2. Paper Published Grants: For those whose paper is published in a journal with an impact factor of at least 5.0, or in a journal ranked in the top 20% of the related area, the winner will receive an additional NT $ 20,000 (or up to NT $ 50,000) reward. This reward may be awarded up to a maximum of three times.

Selection methods:
1. For those Ph.D students who intend to apply for the scholarship, the application form and all relevant documents must be delivered to the office within one month of the start of the school year, and will be reviewed and assessed by the Executive Council of College of Life Science.

2. For the application of paper published grants, the application form and relevant documents must be delivered to the office within a year of the publication date. The awards ceremony will be presented by Mr. Shen’s Foundation.
 
The awardees are required to participate in the admissions forum of Life Science by sharing their experiences. At the same time, the awardees must maintain their graduate studies at an exemplary level and provide learning-related performance so that the scholarship will be continually offered from Mr. Shen’s Foundation. The PhD students who receive this scholarship may also receive additional scholarships or salary as a project research assistant, with the total amount not to exceed NT $ 20,000.
 
 
 
4. "Dr.Hong(洪偉立博士), Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship and Thesis Award"
·        Objectives:
To commemorate the enthusiasm for education of Dr. Hong, the “Dr. Hong (洪偉立博士), Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship and Thesis Award” aims to cultivate outstanding youths to further their higher education and encourage the involvement of graduate students in life science-related research.
 
·        Targets:
The Memorial Scholarship is open to all second-, third- and forth-year undergraduate students of the College of Life Science at National Tsing Hua University.
The Thesis Award is open to all graduate students from the five Institutes of the College of Life Science, National Tsing Hua University. 
·        Award Description: 
1. Memorial Scholarship: Three outstanding candidates, one for each class, will be chosen from second-, third- and forth-year undergraduate students.  Each winner will be awarded NT$ 10,000.
2. Thesis Award: For current graduate students of the College of Life Science, the first author of the published thesis paper will be awarded an amount of NT$ 30,000. A given candidate can only win this prize once. The awards ceremony will be carried out during the convocation.
 
·        Selection Process:
 
1. For applicants of the Memorial Scholarship, please submit the application form and relevant documents to the office within one month of the start of the school year. Your application will be reviewed and assessed by the Executive Council of College of Life Science.
2. For applicants of the Thesis Award, the application form and all relevant documents must be delivered to the office within a year after the publication date. This award will be decided by the committee members of the Annual Conference and Publication Exhibition of students of the College of Life Science. The awards ceremony will be presented by Dr. Hong’s family members.
